Dear Reader Letter
Dear Reader,
With this dear reader letter, I will be going over why I picked the topic of Time Travel and why. I will be asking and answering six critical questions that will make understanding my blog posts a little bit easier.
I choose this topic because I believe Time travel is really important to the theme of sci fi. Everywhere you look in the world you will find the themes of time travel, interlocking with time travel. Time travel is really important to society, and it is widely discussed, and it has tried to be proven again and again. It's really important to me because I think it is really cool, and since it is so important to everyone in society it is also very important to me. Especially since so many scientists have tried to figure it out, and have failed. Which makes it a problem that is unsolvable, which I find really cool.
Before my research began I had only a fundamental understanding of time travel. I knew that there were certain rules, that if not followed could result in the destruction of the entire world or universe, and I knew that everyone including authors view time travel in a different way, and that there are a million different ways time travel could happen, even having time travel being impossible. I really like how different authors write about time travel, and how they are all different. That is what makes me happy about sci fi as a whole. It is always going to be different.
My research questions were what are the rules of time travel, and do they matter. I asked these questions because before I had not known about the rules, and I really wanted to learn more about them. What is really important though is why do these rules matter. Why are these rules put in place, do they really help with avoiding bad things from happening, or are they put in place to control the population. These were the questions that really had me wondering what the author could do with them. That is why I chose these questions.
The resources I used to find my information were Ted talk, Slaughter House V, two twilight episodes, The Time Machine, and a short story by Ray Bradbury. I chose all of these different things about time travel, because they show all the ways authors view time travel, and even though there are millions upon millions of ways time travel, I thought that these ideas were really good for getting my idea across.
Through my research I found many different rules for time travel, and each stories version was different from another. I also found that sometimes the rules of time travel were really important. For example in Ray Bradbury's short story I found that the main character went to the past, and he stepped on a butterfly, and since he did that he made an election in the future change. Looking at this I realized that even doing the smallest things in the past can have an important impact on the future, which is really cool.
This research can make others want to learn more about Sci Fi too, I hope that after showing people my research they find an interest in time travel, and they do their own research too. This research made me want to learn more about other important themes in sci fi, and also find even more about time travel by itself.
Sincerely,
Kayleigh S. Reilly
